Worship

Services at UHC are welcoming, inclusive, and full of music. We use the Mishkan T’Filah, the Reform Siddur of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, as the basis for the weekly liturgy and the Mishkan HaNefesh: Machzor for the Days of Awe for the High Holy Days. Services are held in a variety of locations including the UHC office, hotels, clubs, interfaith spaces, and members’ homes.

Thursday Morning Minyan

Every Thursday from 7.30am - 8.30am, Rabbi Beni, members of the community, and the Gabbai team come together for morning prayers, Torah reading and study, and an opportunity to say Kaddish. Minyan is followed by coffee and pastries for those who have time to stay.

Friday Evening Services

The UHC offers a range of Friday evening services tailored to different segments of the community. Choose one or attend them all.

Shabbat Kulanu

Kulanu = all of us

Starting at 6.30pm, this is a Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma'ariv service for the entire community followed by communal buffet dinner at 7.45pm. Services are led by both Rabbis, together with active participation from upcoming B'nei Mitzvot students and other members of the congregation. Please register and pay in advance if you want to join for dinner.

Sababa! Shabbat

 Sababa = hooray!

Starting at 7.30pm, this shorter service led by both Rabbis follows the community Shabbat liturgy and traditions and is ideal for young professionals, empty nesters, and families with older teens. Stay after the service to enjoy a simple, sociable buffet (such as wine and cheese).

Tot Shabbat

Starting at 5.00pm this special 30-minute service is designed for our smallest members (aged 5 and under) and their grown ups. Join Rabbis Beni and Miriam to play, sing songs, listen to stories, and meet other young families in the UHC community, with plenty of time to get home for dinner and bedtime.

Saturday Services

Shabbat Havayah

Havayah = different

Saturday services are among the ways the UHC honors Shabbat once or twice month. And every time we do it differently. Here are some examples:

Shacharit and Torah Services: held at the UHC office or at the home of one of our members, followed by a Kiddush and / or social brunch.

B’nei Mitzvah: with its thriving young community, together with dedicated adults returning to or converting to Judaism, UHC celebrates a significant number of B’nei Mitzvah throughout the year. These Shabbat morning services are typically organized by the family, led by the student, and open to the whole community.

Afternoon Meditation: join Rabbi Beni in the open air for some spiritual Shabbat guidance, inspiration, and calm.

Havdalah: come together as a community to light the Havdalah flame, breathe in the spice of life, and reflect on the week to come.
